چکیده

We consider the following problem: Given a finite number of sails of different sizes with prescribed shapes, given the speed of the wind, the weight of a surfer, the size and shape of a surfboard and a corresponding fin; determine the sail and the course such that the windsurfer achieves maximal speed. We develop a simple model for describing the movement of the windsurfer for maximizing the speed in terms of a nonlinear ODE (ordinary differential equation). We conclude with the presentation of corresponding numerical results, some remarks on their validation and more involved models.

Windsurfing vs kitesurfing: Injuries at the North Sea over a 2-year period

AIM To analyze all windsurfing and kitesurfing (kiteboarding) injuries presented at our coastal hospital over a 2-year period. METHODS Twenty-five windsurfers (21 male; aged 31 ± 8 years) and 32 kitesurfers (23 male; aged 29 ± 11 years) presented at our hospital during the 2-year study period. Various injury data were recorded, including transport to hospital and treatment. After a median fol...

When I say that innovation is being democratized, I mean that users of products and services—both firms and individual consumers—are increasingly able to innovate for themselves. User-centered innovation processes offer great advantages over the manufacturer-centric innovation development systems that have been the mainstay of commerce for hundreds of years. Users that innovate can develop exac...

Modeling the Operational Speed of Tangents and Curves in Four-lane Highways Based on Geometric and Roadside Factors

Operational speed is an index that represents drivers’ speeding behaviors and shows the comfort and safety levels they experience. Many models had been proposed to predict operational speed in tangent and curve segments of highways. Most of these works had used geometric, with few of them conducted using roadside variables to predict operational speed. Also, the operational speed study in multi...

Modeling, Simulation and Control of Matrix Convert for Variable Speed Wind Turbine System

This paper presents modeling, simulation and control of matrix converter (MC) for variable speed wind turbine (VSWT) system including permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG). At a given wind velocity, the power available from a wind turbine is a function of its shaft speed. In order to track maximum power, the MC adjusts the PMSG shaft speed. The proposed control system allowing independen...
